Thai media reported that earlier this month, former Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin, were seen in China, Japan and Singapore.

Observers say that the appearance of the Shinawatra brothers in Asian countries may be preparation for the Pheu Thai party’s plans before the general election early next year.

Mr. Thaksin was deposed and had to live in exile abroad since 2008 to avoid impeachment.

`It is necessary to understand how powerful the Thaksin `brand` is for his supporters,` said expert Jory.

Mr. Thaksin took a photo with a Pheu Thai party member this month.

Mr. Thaksin was Thailand’s prime minister from 2001 until he was deposed in 2006. He was banned from participating in politics and faced impeachment trial.

β€œHe couldn’t run himself in 2007 and 2011, but his influence remains.

Thai media quoted Pheu Thai party officials who met Mr. Thaksin as saying that their former leader urged them to unite.

Previously, some well-informed sources said that the Shinawatra brothers also met with former Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawa on February 10.

However, Pheu Thai has denied accusations that the party is being `pulled on` by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
